Mango Pickle (Avakai)

Ingredients:

6 Medium Size Raw Firm Mangoes

1 cup Chili Powder

3/4 to 1 cup salt

1/4 cup dry chick peas (optional)

1 tsp turmeric

3/4 cup mustard seeds

11/4 to 11/2 cups oil

1 pod garlic (optional)

Method:

Wash and drain mangoes with paper towels until dry. Cut into 1 inch cubes. Peel garlic. Grind mustard seeds to smooyh powder. Mix it with 3/4 salt, turmeric and chili powder. Dip mango pieces in 1/2 cup oil and mix in  the powdered mixture. Add chick peas and garlic. Put aside for 2 days. Add the remaining oil .It is best consumed after a week after making.
